Twee jaar geleden had ik een discussie met James Henriot van Whest Audio. Hij had het niet zo op gebalanceerde phonotrappen:
"I remember trying to explain why I disagree with balanced signal processing. Balancing is good for reducing common mode noise like mains or lighting noise BUT when you have full balanced circuitry you create more 'thermal' noise due to the extra components (doubling up of components) used. This noise cannot be reduced as it is now part of the design.
Thermal noise 'smears' micro/ low level detail which is why the whole Whest range are single-ended designs.
The whole balancing thing today is a sales technique only and nothing to do with audio reproduction. MC cartridges are not actually 'balanced' but floating. For balanced you need 3 terminals, so a true balanced cartridge would have 6 pins instead of 4."
