Hi all,

Maybe this is not exactly a music review, since it involves comparisson between 2 source formats of various types of Music, but it is not exactly an audio... paper either. Never the less, the music I am referring to is very interesting, no matter if you have it recorded on vinyl or on an aluminum disc...

The purpose of doing this is to face this old analogue vs.digital "war", from the point of the final acoustical experience and pleasure, listening to both formats - which is what matters anyway - and not from a technical point of view. We've had enough of this...

I wonder if members of these forums have the same experience with me or the oposite...

Sorry to trouble you...

Hi Christos,

No problem at all to ask a question/opinion. And if you know the Dutch a little bit you are probably aware that we have no problem whatsoever in sharing our opinion :D

I generaly agree with the idea that music on vinyl is better/easier to listen to than digitally stored music. In general. There are quite a lot of variables in an analog reproduction that have a major influence on the final quality, digital music is a lot easier to get right. And SACD is very close to the vinyl experience, I'm still not convinced by DVD-audio.

I also have some comments on your choice of music/media. If you take Sara K., the CD version of Water Falls is excellent, even better than her recordings on Chesky (that are quite good also). The comparison between Water Falls on vinyl and CD still ends up in favour of vinyl, but its closer than most of the other direct comparions I have been able to make.

On "The Pawnshop" (the only other album I own/know of the ones you refer to) I can only say that I like one song on the album, the rest is just audiophile knitpicking for me. If you really like Arne Domnerus you should try "Antiphone Blues" on vinyl, hard to get but what a fantastic album. If you can't get the big black one, get the SACD version, also excellent.

Kind regards,

Enno :)
